Squirrels in the Attic

October 2025 — White Salmon, Washington

As the weather starts to cool in White Salmon, it’s pretty common for homeowners to begin hearing more movement above the ceiling. This time of year, squirrels start looking for warm, quiet places to settle in, and attics often become an easy target. With so many homes here set close to trees and open hillside, it does not take much for a squirrel to make its way from a branch to the roofline.

What often starts as a little scratching or quick movement overhead can turn into a bigger issue if it goes unnoticed. Once inside, squirrels can tear into insulation, build nests, and keep returning to the same sheltered space. They are persistent animals, and if there is a weak point near a vent, soffit, or roof edge, they usually find it.

Living in the Gorge means sharing space with wildlife, and most of the time that is part of what makes this area special. But when animals begin moving into the home, it is best to catch it early. In the fall, a small attic problem can become a much bigger one by winter if entry points are left open.

At Gorge Central Pest Control, we help homeowners identify where wildlife is getting in and take practical steps to help keep it from happening again.
